Our History

James Clarke Griffiths, known as Griff, started Griff Building Supplies in 1964. Griff was a man of drive, character and integrity who had no choice but to make his new business a success as he and his wife had sold their home in Burnaby in order to make it happen. With five daughters at home, failure was not an option. From sales to set up, grading lumber to working in the yard, it wasn't long before Griff bought out his original partners and proudly built the large warehouse. The hard work paid off and Griff Building Supplies experienced rapid growth through the early 1990's, firmly establishing an excellent reputation as a one-stop shop for building supplies.

Our Future

Today James Griffiths' daughters, Carole Albertson and Deborah White, own and run the family business and remain as involved and committed as their father once was. To keep up with it's growth Griff Building Supplies moved to their new location in 2000.

Griff Building Supplies is committed to continue to grow and change along with the needs of their customers. Their recent affiliation with the Irly Group of building centres helps them offer an even wider variety of hardware, paints and stains, major brands of power and hand tools, flooring, mouldings and more. Other more recent and notable changes include:

• Expansion of the wholesale division
• Introduction of a finished material division
• Addition of covered storage areas
• Increased retail representatives
• Upgraded computer systems
• Development and training for staff members

These investments, together with Griff's commitment to serve all of their customer's building needs, have resulted in Griff's continued growth and success. "If we don't have it, we'll get it for you," says co-owner Carole Albertson, "you don't have to go anywhere else."

Our Mission Statement

Griff Building Supplies will provide quality products to the building supply industry through superior service and commitment to our customers. With on-going training, new product lines and educational courses for our staff, we will continue to grow and learn for the benefit of our customers.

Our Mascot

Woody showed up at our shipping yard approximately 4 years ago and has made us his home. He is still part wild cat and can be “feisty” at times but is loving with a select few. He is also an excellent hunter and brings us his trophies (mice or birds) once in a while and as you can see he is always on top of his paperwork!
